I was born by the river
in a little tent
and just like the river
i've been running ever since
It's been a long, long time coming
but i know a change gonna come
oh, yes it is
It's been too hard living
but i'm afraid to die
i don't know what's up there beyond the sky
It's been a long, long time coming
but i know a change gonna come
oh yes it will
Then i go to my brother
i say brother help me please
but he winds up knocking me
back down on my knees
There's been times that i thought
i wouldn't last for long
but now i think i'm able to carry on
it's been a long, long time coming
but i know a change is gonna come
oh, yes it will
