Puesto #1 La letra de la canción habla del rey Luis XVI de Francia y narra en primera persona lo que le ocurrió al monarca antes y durante la Revolución Francesa (1789). Narra el reinado de Luis desde el principio (1774) hasta su muerte (1793), cuando fue decapitado por los revolucionarios en la guillotina delante del pueblo en París. En varias de las estrofas cuenta todo esto con claridad.

Después de la revolución, los revolucionarios querían que el rey fuera recordado como un hombre débil, sin personalidad, bueno para nada e incluso tirano y déspota. Todo para defender la revolución. Pero otros recuerdan a Luis XVI como un rey que amaba a su pueblo, tanto que no quiso derramar sangre, ni siquiera cuando los tiempos se pusieron difíciles y, aunque era la opción más segura para mantener el orden, no lo hizo.
